ATO offers interesting careers for graduates

Looking for an interesting place to be…or a place to be interesting? It might be worthwhile to consider a career at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), an organisation that appears to value those with an innovative approach.

Tax Commissioner Chris Jordan told the Tax Institute of Australia annual conference that the ATO retains 85% of graduates, one of the highest retention rates in the public sector.

“I believe this says something about being a good employer with a good development program, career opportunities and interesting work.”

Chris Jordan is the first Commissioner to come from outside the ranks of the ATO, and for two decades worked at KPMG. “We aim to work more co-operatively and effectively with the community to identify problems and design solutions.”

In the past 12 months the ATO has launched a new app for business, an interactive Small Business Assisttool, and an after-hours call back service for small business. Last week, they also ran a Facebook Q&A, answering questions about their Graduate development program. You can see the event at https://www.facebook.com/atogovau#!/events/614802941908315/
